About Whois Lookup

Look up domain registration details and availability instantly. Our WHOIS tool queries public registries to find out who owns a domain, when it was registered, and when it's set to expire, helping you manage your web assets or research potential acquisitions.

How to Use

  1. Enter the domain name (e.g., example.com) into the lookup field.
  2. Click 'Lookup' to query global domain registration databases.
  3. Review the registration date, expiration date, and nameserver info.
  4. If the domain is available, you'll see a 'Domain not found' message, indicating it can likely be registered.

Common Use Cases

  • Checking the expiration date of your own domains to prevent accidental loss.
  • Researching the registration history and ownership of a website for business intelligence.
  • Verifying nameserver configurations to troubleshoot website hosting issues.

Technical Details

Queries the RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) standard, the modern, structured successor to the traditional WHOIS protocol, providing faster and more reliable results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my personal data visible?
Due to GDPR and privacy services, most modern WHOIS records redact personal names, emails, and phone numbers by default.
Can it check any domain extension?
We support the vast majority of popular TLDs (like .com, .net, .org) and many country-code extensions through the RDAP network.
What is RDAP and how is it different from traditional WHOIS?
RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern replacement for WHOIS. It returns structured JSON data over HTTPS, making it more reliable, machine-readable, and privacy-aware than the plain-text WHOIS protocol.
Will I see the domain owner's contact details?
Many registrars redact personal contact details under GDPR and similar privacy regulations. You will typically see the registrar name, registration and expiry dates, nameservers, and status codes.
Can I use this to check if a domain is about to expire?
Yes. The expiry date is one of the key fields returned. If a domain's expiry date is approaching, that information will be visible in the results.
Can I look up WHOIS data for IP addresses as well as domain names?
Yes. In addition to domain WHOIS lookups, the tool can query RDAP records for IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. IP WHOIS data shows the network block owner (usually an ISP or cloud provider), the organization name, the allocated address range (CIDR block), and abuse contact details. This is useful for identifying the owner of an IP address, reporting abuse, or confirming which hosting provider is serving a particular server. Results come from the regional internet registry (ARIN, RIPE, APNIC, etc.) that manages the relevant IP block.

Local processing

Our local file, text and chart tools process content on your device using JavaScript, browser APIs and, where needed, WebAssembly. Our usage events do not include filenames, file contents, input text, chart values, raw errors, emails or license references. Network lookup tools (such as DNS, WHOIS, IP and speed tests) contact external services for their stated purpose. Loading the website, fonts, libraries and models also makes network requests. WebAssembly itself does not prevent network access.
